Birthplace of the State
Freeport is often credited with being the birthplace of the state. In fact, many meetings of Maine leaders took place at Freeport's Jameson Tavern, debating and planning the separation from Massachusetts, which took place in 1820.

The Town of Freeport is located along the shores of Casco Bay, approximately two hours north of Boston and only 20 minutes north of Portland, Maine.
