Hedgehog Mountain
This property was acquired by the town from the Soule familiy 1991, to be preserved and enjoyed in its natural state. It is a 100 acre parcel on Pownal Road about 1 mile west of Interstate 95, and is maintained by the Freeport Conservation Commission and volunteers. The 'mountain' is a small peak 308 feet above sea level with considerable views both toward the ocean and the White Mountains

Driving Directions

To the Town Hall/Town Center/Shopping: (The Town Hall is a red building (the old Grove Street School), located at 30 Main St.)

From the South (Portland) - 

  • Take Interstate 295 to Exit 20 - the Desert Road exit (formerly exit 19)
  • At the end of the exit ramp take a right turn onto Route One/Main Street.
  • There will be a traffic light right after the exit ramp. At this light stay on Route One North.
  • Continue through two other traffic signals (approximately one mile.)
  • After this second traffic signal (West Street/Route One intersection) the Town Hall is 1/10 of a mile on the right.

From the North (Brunswick):

  • Take Interstate 295 to Exit 22 - the Mallet Drive exit ( formerly exit 20)
  • At the end of the exit ramp take a right turn onto Mallet Drive crossing over the Interstate.
  • Mallet Drive ends at a traffic signal (McDonald's on your right).
  • At this traffic signal, take a right turn onto Route One South/Main Street.
  • Travel along Route One/Main Street approximately 1/2 mile, passing LL Bean on your right.
  • Town Hall is the first building on the left after Grove Street.

To the Freeport Community Library: (Located at 10 Library Drive (off Route One))

 To the Solid Waste/Recycling Facility:

  • From US Route 1, take Mallet Drive westerly past the Interstate to its end.
  • Turn left and follow Pownal Road for about half a mile.
  • Watch for sign on your left.
