Director¡¦s Report
„« DVD & VHS Collection ¡V To better serve the public, online renewal policy for DVD & VHS tapes has been revised to include a one time renewal. Concern was expressed over the loss of late fees for these items which is used to replenish the collection. Currently there is no line item in the budget to cover the cost of new purchases.
„« DVD Age Policy ¡V the board & staff will review the policy on the appropriate age to take out DVD¡¦s from the library. Currently no one under 18 can check out a DVD without an adult.
„« Bill Nye the Science Guy ¡V Shari suggested the purchase of a series of 100 tapes that would enhance the children¡¦s collection. Beth will investigate.
„« Survey Ideas ¡V Ed Boutin proposed a series of short surveys to solicit input for improvement from library patrons. The surveys could be included in the newsletters, website, town mailing & in the lobby. Results would be published to generate more interest. Ed & Beth will work on a preliminary Audio/Visual Survey and present it to the group at the March meeting.
„« Author¡¦s Talks ¡V The Library is negotiating with Sherman¡¦s Books to set up a series of author¡¦s talks to be held at the Library.
„« Chocolate Bash ¡V The annual chocolate bash will take place at the library Wednesday, February 13, 2008. Music by Cul de Saxe.
„« Friends of the Library ¡V Friends of the Library will hold a conference in Augusta in September. Beth and Shari Broder will explore this option for Freeport. Currently there are 20-25 regular volunteers. By initiating a formal group of volunteers, the library has the potential to expand into the community, increase the number of resources, and assist the staff w/ their current responsibilities.
„« Technology Coordinator ¡V The library no longer has access to the technology coordinator for the Town of Freeport. The board & staff are actively looking for a designer to improve the current library website as a donation of services or at minimal cost.
„« Genealogy Course¡V The attendance and interest in a free 8 week genealogy session offered by FC Library has been so successful the staff is considering a subscription to a genealogy database that will cost $30/month.
New Business
„« Next meeting ¡V Monday 3/7/08 at the Freeport Community Library @7PM.
