Recycling/Solid Waste Committee Meeting Minutes

Minutes of the Meeting Held December 19, 2007

1. Approval of minutes of the November 14, 2007 Committee Meeting
The minutes were unanimously approved.

2. Solid Waste & Recycling Director’s Report
Al brought statistics. He reports the revenues for recycled materials has increased, which he feels is due to the paper and cardboard sales.
3. Old Business
a. The recycling video is still in the works. We will have more information in the near future.
b. The new recycling signs are up and look very good. There may be a need to adjust the northerly South Freeport sign to indicate more accurately the location of the silver bullet. Al will check into the matter.
c. Al will rewrite the cardboard recycling notice to go to the Freeport Merchants Association (FMA) to emphasize the town ordinance aspect of the message. Paul suggested a link to the Freeport Recycling Website be added. He will also check with the assessor’s office to see if we can obtain business listings in Freeport in an effort to contact businesses that may not belong to the FMA.
d. Louise continues to do a fantastic job with “RecyclingTips” for the Notes. She also composed a “letter to the editor” regarding disposal of wrapping paper, which she is hoping will run in the Times Record, and the Portland Press Herald.
4. New Business
Al will look into the issue of pick-up regarding the returnables, and will report back to the committee.
5. Other Business
Louise suggested we consider some incentive programs to encourage residents to utilize the Recycling Center services. This will be on the agenda for next meeting.
6. Adjourn Motion was made to adjourn. The next meeting will be January 16, 2008
6:30 PM at the Freeport Community Center.
