Minutes from the November meeting were unanimously accepted.
Director¡¦s Report
„« Community Read ¡V January marks the start of the Community Read Project. The book chosen is ¡§Shadow Divers¡¨ by Robert Kurson. Community activities and book discussions will be planned around this topic
„« Genealogy Course¡V A free 8 week session is being offered by FC Library beginning Wednesday, January 16 from 6:30-8PM. Organized by Vickie Lowe and taught by Susan Paradis, the course cost of $1000 for labor and materials will be paid for from the Bennett Fund.
„« Library Amnesty Day ¡V 7 boxes of food collected from the library¡¦s amnesty day were donated to the Freeport Community Food Pantry.
„« Book Sale ¡V Elaine is organizing the Book Sale that will take place in April.
„« Art Donation Policy ¡V Beth formulated a written policy on donations of art to the library. The 10th year anniversary commemorative painting by Catherine Breer was accepted as a donation. Board will help decide where to hang it.
„« Fundraising ¡V Town-wide solicitation letter has raised $3,000 to date. Library¡¦s letter to past donors will go out in May.
„« Renewing & Reserving Library materials now available on line
„« Children¡¦s Book Fund ¡V In honor of Grace Ritchie¡¦s 90thy birthday, her family is setting up a fund for the purchase of new children¡¦s books.
„« American Library Association Conference ¡V Beth would like to attend this conference in June to research advanced technology, future library trends, endowment funds¡Kfor strategic long term planning..
„« Budget Letter ¡V Shari & Beth will submit the 2008-2009 budget letter to the Town Council by Tuesday 1/15/08. No major increases were requested but the board would like the 2009-2010 book budget and staffing levels returned to their preexisting levels
„« Long Range Planning ¡V The board continues to brainstorm ideas for needed library improvements that should be included in the capital budget. There is still a need for an expanded young adult section.
New Business
„« Chocolate Bash ¡V The annual chocolate bash will take place at the library Wednesday, February 13, 2008. Music by Cul de Saxe.
„« Next meeting ¡V Monday 2/4/07 at the Freeport Community Library @7PM.
